Harry and Lola Adventures

When we adoped Harry and Lola, we learned that Scottie rescue needed donations.  I'd written self-help books before I'd retired, so I thought that I'd try writng a children's book about the Scots and donate the profits to rescue.  One story led to another.  There are now nine e-books and five books in print, two of which are three story collections.  Harry, Lola and our third adopted Scot, Bernie, enjoy going to readings of their stories at local Central Oregon resorts.  They love their fans!

Harry and Lola Meet the Dragon

This is a three chapter book with 40 full color illustrations. Smoki (the Magical Cat) gives Harry magical powers. Harry and Lola use the magic to take a trip to Scotland where they visit Dunnottar Castle on the North Sea. At the castle, they meet a Spanish dragon, Sebastian, whose wing is broken. Harry uses his magic to heal the wing and the group heads off to Spain to meet Sebastian’s mother. From Spain they go to China so  Sebastian can learn the "art of healing" from the green dragons of China. Once Sebastian earns his power to heal, the three friends go to Africa to save a herd of elephants from a giant crocodile.

The Harry and Lola Christmas Collection

The joyous spirits of Christmas, sharing and caring, are at the heart of the three stories and 60 illustrations in this collection. Children love to help others and want to be loved. Each story inspires these characteristics in the reader.

Harry and Lola Meet Santa Paws introduces a new Christmas legend. Rescued Scotties Harry and Lola meet Santa Paws—once one of Santa’s helpers-- who takes food and treats to needy dogs on Christmas Eve. Harry and Lola ride with Santa Paws on a Christmas Eve adventure.  The thrill of the night comes when they assist Santa Paws and his team of sled dogs in rescuing a puppy from a band of marauding hyenas. Though terrified of the hyenas, Lola discovers she has true courage and Santa Paws invites the pair to join him next Christmas Eve.

Harry and Lola Santa Paws 2 returns the pair as Christmas Eve helpers. Just as they are leaving to meet Santa Paws, they find a neglected young Corgi, which they name Prince. Prince needs a home but there is no time to deal with that, so they bring him along. The team helps rescue dogs that have been injured in a Christmas Eve tornado and Prince discovers strength and courage he didn’t know he had.

Bernie’s First Christmas is about the newest member of Harry and Lola’s rescued Scottie dog family. Having spent the first six months of his life in a small cage, Bernie is in love with his new life. His passion sometimes gets him in trouble. So … when Christmas stockings are hung and Bernie learns that good dogs will receive presents on Christmas, Bernie wonders if he has been a good dog. He explores all the things he’s done wrong and concludes, “There isn’t going to be a Christmas for Bernie.” Kids can relate to Bernie’s concern. They also love the ending!

Harry and Lola Meet MacDuffer

Surprises await Harry and Lola when they go on vacation. Staying at a golfing resort brings the pair face to face with MacDuffer, the spirit of the Honorable Game of Golf. “Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated … it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented.” says golfing great, Arnold Palmer. Harry and Lola discover how right Mr. Palmer is when they play a moonlit round. Life lessons are learned about being honest, accepting other’s faults and the value of being kind to others. It’s a wonderful book for introducing children to the game of golf. Colorfully illustrated, delightfully written and a great book for story time.
